Tracking COVID-19 variants through wastewater

Researchers at the University of California-San Diego use wastewater to detect and identify new variants of COVID-19.

Smruthi Karthikeyan, a post-doctoral researcher in the University of California at San Diego's school of medicine discusses a project that has used wastewater testing to detect asymptomatic COVID-19 cases. Karthikeyan and her colleagues are now hoping to detect different variants of the disease before an outbreak occurs.
